ANTH 323: Human Rights Law in Culture and Practice
For the Final Assignment in the course we were to write a 5 page paper discussing the prompt of the challenges of compliance and modes of intervention for human rights abuses. We also had to use at least one example in where the issues of compliance and intervention show up, where I reference Darfur and Palestine. In the beginning of the quarter Israel's genocidal campaign began in Gaza, and while the conflict was 75 years in the making - as the events unfolded I was able to learn about human rights abuses and laws within the United Nations. While the class was insightful it was disheartening to learn how powerful Nation-States prioritize economic gains over the lives of people. Grade: 21/25 Comments: Your analysis has a great potential with thoughtful nuances on the case studies, but it remains a bit brief and weak in engaging the sources. I would liked to have seen page numbers and quotations alongside your thoughts, and more importantly, a clearer presentation of ideas that would support your arguments. |

PSYCH 439 (AD-HOC): Psychology of Health Disparities
One of the last course assignments was to define health and health disparities, and provide a structural or social change that can occur to address health disparities. I loved taking this class as I was able to expand my knowledge and learn of health disparities faced by other communities whose identities don't intersect with mine. While disheartening to see how many issues and how corrupt our healthcare system is - everyone in that class was passionate for change, which brings me hope. Grade: 20/20 Comments: Very thoughtful reflection that does a great job drawing on the course material (and brings in additional research). Thanks for sharing! |

AD HOC Project: Health Disparities Through A Poetic Lens
Final Instructor Evaluation: Anisa did an excellent job with this project. She chose 7 countries outside of the U.S. (Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Canada, and Sweden), conducted additional research on disparities in those countries on dimensions covered in class (e.g., race, gender, sexuality, immigration, etc.). For each country and dimension of health disparity, Anisa also found a poem that represented the findings from the research. The project was extremely well-done. Anisa did extensive background research, finding national surveys about health disparities from these other countries. This was especially impressive because in many cases, this information was not primarily in English, so she had to find translations. Moreover, the poetry that Anisa selected did an excellent job of encapsulating the lived experiences of people with marginalized identities that harms their health. When Anisa could not find relevant poems (e.g., the week where we focused on rural/urban health disparities), she reflected on her own. I truly enjoyed reading Anisa's work and seeing the course topics come "alive" through poetry. Excellent ad hoc honors project! |
