ANTH 497: Domesticating International Human Rights: Perspectives on U.S. Asylum and Refugee Law
OH MY a 12 page paper. Unfortunately, the class on Canvas was taken down and I'm unable to locate the instructions, grade, and comments for this final assignment. The one aspect I love most about my major is how interdisciplinary the courses are, with ANTH 497 being cross sectioned with LSJ. In this class I was able to learn more about the United Nations and International law regarding refugees and those seeking asylum. During this quarter there was a large amount of migrants coming from Central and Southern America, alongside inhumane conditions of detention centers and family separations at the border. Having background information on the laws that impact the experiences of migrants was important, especially as I wish to continue to advocate for immigrants and those who are refugees. |

SPAN 216: Spanish for Heritage Speakers
For this assignment we had to write a poem about what it means for us to be bilingual. I wrote of the difficulties I've faced in being bicultural in the States, with the emotions of not truly being welcomed in the U.S. but being too American for my cultural community. Grade: 17.5/20 Comments: Hermoso trabajo! Me encantó tu poema Anisa, me gustó cómo encontraste la forma de usar las comparaciones para expresar cómo se siente tu bilingüismo! Translation: Great job! I love your poem Anisa, I like how you use comparisons to express how you feel about your bilingualism. |

HONORS 221 D: Emerging and ReEmerging Infectious Diseases
This assignment was to research an infectious disease and my topic of interest was to research an infectious disease that disproportionately impacts women. During the preliminary research stage I found that most STDs impact women at a higher rate than men, and decided to make that the focus of my research. I truly enjoyed this class as learning about how diseases such as MRSA, the plague, tuberculosis, and antibiotic resistance impact one's health and livelihood. Class final grade: 374/374 |
MAMA, I MADE IT! In Winter of 2023 I had applied to the Psychology Department after waiting to apply an extra year after fulfilling all the prerequisites. In all honesty I was afraid of applying to my dream major and getting rejected. I thought that I was better off not applying to escape the confrontation with rejection. However I knew that I would not be fulfilled if I didn't at least try. I had retaken PSYCH 202 after failing it the first time and it wasn't so I can give up on my dreams simply in fear of not making it. The Monday of Week 5 I recieved my acceptance email and I was so excited, knowing that all my hard work paid off, and that I was one step closer to completing my goals. |

HONORS 232 B: Reproductive Justice in Practice: Movements, Methods, and Meaning
In the Positionality Paper assignment I was supposed to reflect on my own relationship and experiences with reproductive justice. The professor allowed for creative freedom in how we wish to express our experiences. I decided I wanted to reflect in the best way I knew how, writing poetry. In the poem I talk about how I went to a conference where many of the attendees spoke about how they cared about justice after a neighbor or a distant person in the community was impacted. I had felt conflicted as I cared about injustices because they impacted my family and close community members. I never had the luxury of not caring. Grade: 4/4 Comments: Your voice is remarkable, Anisa. I feel the power in every syllable - keep writing! Thank you for bringing me into your world. |

HONORS 232 B: Reproductive Justice in Practice: Movements, Methods, and Meaning
I took this course during the weeks following the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade. I had came into the class believing that reproductive justice only includes pro-choice or pro-life decisions. However, I learned that the basic tenets of reproductive justice are:

PSYCH 303: Psychology of Personality
For my final, I had to find a fictional character from a TV series, movie, or novel - and apply concepts learned in class to analyze their personality characteristics. I loved taking this class over the summer as I was able to learn how a person's environment like room or office - can show how a person's personality is. I loved the final project in bringing in all the theories learned throughout the quarter to psychoanalyze a character, especially with the character I chose being the antagonist of the TV series. Grade: 95/100 Comments: Great job. |
