HONORS 100
One of my last assignments in HONORS 100, is to create my portfolio and reflect over my autumn quarter experiences. I reflected over the growth of my mindset, and new experiences I want to set out to do over the years. One thing I've always done growing up is use writing (specifically poetry) to analyze my feelings, something that HONORS makes me do often. I hope that in a few years I can look back and open this file, and check every box I set forward to do. Bringing more than just my academic reflection to this paper, but my mindset and mental standpoint, allows me to normalize that it's okay to not be 100% okay. |

CHSTU 224: Life and Labor in the US-Mexico Borders
For For Reflection Paper #2 I had to discuss how institutional violence impacts communities on both sides of the border, alongside how archetypal images influence how communities are viewed. This class was my favorite class I took this quarter as I was able to learn about past and contemporary issues of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, labor, and migration within the borderlands. Grade: 7.5/7.5 Comments: This essay offers an excellent point by offering how in the absence of space in dominant narratives, often due to systemic exclusion and negligence, the reframing and retelling of stories through oral history allow those without an institutional voice to carve out a space to tell their own truths. - Oscar C. HONORS 231 A: Making All the Difference: Gender, Disability, and Law
For the second short essay I had to examine and analyse case studies that we looked at throughout the quarter, and and the recurring themes. This class pushed me to enhance my writing and analytical skills especially when referencing various articles related to law. I decided to showcase my second short essay, since I was able to utilize the feedback from my first short essay where I had an unclear structure and incomplete analyses. Grade: 17/20 Comments: Good effort, Anisa. It is a nice reflection on where intersectionality matters and how it has come up within class discussions and readings. I would like to see a deeper analysis but I know you do this in the case study. |

PSYCH 202: Biopsychology
Biopsychology in the World: In a series of 4 parts I had to find a topic of interest that would connect topics of psychology with issues/concepts in the world. For my project I wanted to connect neuroscience and the justice system. In this final project I presented my research conclusions, proposed and executed a course of action that is informed by what I've learned. Grade: 33/40 Comments: Areas that needed improvement: detailed plan of action, execution and report of what I've done, |

GEN ST 391 M: Leadership Firesides
The Leadership Firesides class is meant to offer opportunities of dialogue with leaders in various careers from civic, corporate, and campus leaders. The theme of this quarter was 'Leadership in a Time of Disillusionment'. This class gave space to reflect and apply lessons of leadership from our own experiences, and what we think of leadership. Grade: 26/26 Comments: Awesome final reflection, Anisa! I appreciate your vulnerability in sharing your story. Often times hegemonic structures (i.e. whiteness) impact the way we see ourselves and what is important to us. I am glad that you found a community in HS that celebrated your identity and gave you the space to truly be proud. Coming to those realizations is not easy but they are powerful. I liked reading your part about apathy and how often times that is not a option for marginalized folks. Appreciated reading your reflections this quarter. Keep up the great work! |
