GH 101: Introduction to Global Health: Disparities, Determinants, Policies, and Outcomes
For the Global Fund Assignment - Final Proposal I wrote a final proposal which was to be turned into the Global Fund where I acted as my countries Ministry or Department of Health. The country I chose to research and address in their health disparities was Peru in regards to HIV and AIDS. This project was built on over the course of the quarter and I had to incorporate and build on course themes. I truly enjoyed this class as I got to expand my knowledge on health disparities related to HIV and AIDS as my knowledge of these diseases were limited. Grade: 47/50 Comments: Really great job with this proposal Anisa! It is clear that you incorporated feedback from your previous assignments and peer feedback and worked hard to fine-tune this long and challenging assignment. You also demonstrated mastery of a lot of course material. Congratulations on finishing this course! |

ANTH 215: Introduction to Medical Anthropology and Global Health
Two People: same event, different story - is an assignment meant to put into conversation issues regarding health disparities and structural inequalities. The two personas I created for this project was Anna and Guadalupe - who struggled with the same medical condition and had similar student standings, yet one was able to receive medical treatment and the other wasn't due to discrimination, lack of resources, and unaffordable healthcare. Grade: 98/100 Comments: Nice job illustrating how structural inequalities and vulnerabilities produce different (and often devastating) healthcare outcomes. |
In Winter 2022 I decided to declare my first major - Medical Anthropology and Global Health. After taking courses such as ANTH 215, GH 101, and HONORS 231 - I had an increased interest in continuing my studies regarding health disparities faced by the community. I also had friends who were in the major and hearing the various classes they took I knew MAGH was a major that would allow me to continue to explore my interests and expand my knowledge.
What is Medical Anthropology and Global Health? Anthropology is the study of human societies, cultures, and their development. With a specialization in (medical) anthropology we look at a framework that can address and understand local and global health issues. |

HONORS 232/AES 398: Human Trafficking in an Era of Globalization: Forced Labor, Involuntary Servitude, and Corporate and Civic Responsibility
For my midterm I had to address a theme that has been covered over the quarter thus far. The theme I wanted to address was the MMIW - Missing Murdered Indigenous Women. I chose that topic due to the lack of media and government attention to the alarming number of cases of sexual and physical violence against Indigenous women. This course expanded my knowledge of what human trafficking is as previously I thought the only form of human trafficking was sex trafficking. Over the course of the quarter I learned that the highest rates of trafficking come from labor trafficking, in which people are underpaid, exploited, and denied their rights. Examples of labor trafficking come from agricultural field work, factories both abroad and in state, and even house cleaners. In my freshman year learning statement I stated how I wanted to be able to learn more about human trafficking, and I have been able to do so with this class. Grade: 20/20 Comments: Hi Anisa! Thank you for this thoughtful review about the missing and murdered Indigenous women. You incorporate interesting points and provide strong evidence for the Savannah Act. Great JOB! |
